Explore Arch Park, With Time for Lunch

Posted on 10/31/17 by TheAARPBulletin, AARP Blog Author

Walk, have lunch and explore new additions to downtown St. Louis—and snap a selfie while you’re at it.

The AARP in St. Louis Breakfast Bunch, part of Citizens for Modern Transit’s Ten Toe Express program, will host a walk Saturday, Nov. 18, over the Eads Bridge. Walkers will also explore the new Gateway Arch Park grounds, Kiener Plaza and the Citygarden during the hour-long tour.

“The focal point of the arch makes a nice backdrop for selfies,” said walk coordinator and AARP volunteer Loretta Davis, 63.

Participants will meet at 8:30 a.m. by the ticket vending machines at the Shrewsbury MetroLink Station, 7201 Lansdowne Ave., to take a train into downtown St. Louis. After the walk, group members will eat lunch at Kaldi’s Coffee before catching a train back out of the city. The train should arrive at Shrewsbury Station around 1 p.m.

Davis said participants are always surprised by what downtown St. Louis has to offer and how easy it is to get there without a car.

Walkers are responsible for their own train rides and lunches. Those 65 and older can apply for a Senior Reduced Fare Permit with MetroLink and receive train rides for half price. Register for the free walk at or by calling 877-926-8300.—Katie Pohlman
