Jamie Champion Mongiovi, a leader with extensive experience in strategic communications, media relations and legislative affairs in the state capital, will serve as AARP Florida’s new communications manager, the Association’s Florida state director, Jeff Johnson, said today.

“Jamie brings formidable talents as a communications strategist to our team, and we are delighted to welcome her to the new role,” Johnson said. “Just as important, her own experiences as a family caregiver prepare her to equip and fight for our members on some of the most important opportunities and challenges they face.”

Mongiovi succeeds Dave Bruns, who is retiring Jan. 8. Bruns had served as communications manager for the AARP Florida state office since 2005.

She will lead a team of five staff and one social media consultant. She also will serve as a member of the AARP Florida management team. She joins AARP on Jan. 11.

Since 2014, Mongiovi had served as director of communications for the Office of Financial Regulation for the state of Florida. Jamie came to the Office of Financial Regulation from Core Message, a leading public relations firm in Tallahassee, Previously, she worked for nine years at the state Department of Education, rising through the ranks to become a spokesperson for the agency.
