Discuss issues of local importance with neighbors while sipping free drinks at an event open to AARP members and their guests.

AARP On Tap will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at one of the newest restaurants in the community: Roam Kitchen + Bar, at 4245 W. Empire Place. Participants will get free appetizers and two beverages each.

Erik Nelson, AARP South Dakota advocacy director, will talk about building on Sioux Falls’ status as a livable community and the need for reliable high-speed internet service across the state.

Last spring, Sioux Falls became the first city in South Dakota to join the AARP Network of Age- Friendly States and Communities. Members commit to making their localities more livable for people of all ages.

At AARP On Tap, people will learn more about livability issues and how they can help, said Leah Ganschow, communications director for AARP in Sioux Falls.

“We’re going to look at advocacy and how you can make your community better by getting active at the local and state level,” Ganschow said.

Roam, which opened in April, is a themed restaurant with decor that evokes the spirit of the American frontier. Registration for the event is required; go to aarp.cvent.com/SFOnTap19 or call 877-926-8300.
