Engage in a Walk Audit to Help Keep Alabama Streets Safe

Posted on 10/31/22 by The AARP Bulletin

With pedestrians facing dangers on roadways with no sidewalks, AARP Alabama is encouraging residents to conduct walk audits that evaluate the safety—or lack of it—in their communities. Audit findings are shared with elected officials and other local leaders.

AARP offers a Walk Audit Tool Kit so volunteers can choose a route and evaluate sidewalks, street crossings, public transit and other infrastructure features that make up the local transportation system. Cooler fall weather makes November an ideal time for an audit.
