Summer is right around the corner. Now is a great time to shake off the winter blues and put a little pep in your step!
It can be hard to get motivated to incorporate regular exercise or movement into our schedules. Maybe joint pain or arthritis have prevented you from walking regularly. Maybe you're hesitant about visiting your local gym but you’d love to have a walking buddy, or a group of walking buddies!
We have a solution, you can join our NeighborWalk group!
AARP Montana offers a fun way to establish a walking habit and to share the experience with others by participating in this 6-week, in-person walking group. Even if you already walk regularly, it'll be fun to join this group and connect with others in our community.
We’ll meet Tuesdays at 2pm at the Great Northern Carousel and then walk at Centennial Park.
Use the “register here” buttons below to register for each walking group. You will receive your free "Walk With Ease Participant Guidebook" when the group meets!
NeighborWalk Dates and Links -- all times are Mountain Time
The 6-week Spring AARP Montana NeighborWalk Program will launch on May 23 and is designed for people of all ages and all abilities who are interested in walking.
The program is based on the Arthritis Foundation’s national Walk With Ease Program. You’ll receive the Walk With Ease Participant Guidebook as a NeighborWalk participant. The guidebook, and our weekly meetings will provide useful information and tips about developing an individual walking plan that is comfortable for you!
Participants are encouraged to incorporate independent, self-paced walks 3-times a week which will include our Tuesday walk. It doesn’t matter how far you walk. If you’re a beginner, you can start out walking for as long as you’re personally comfortable and build up to 30 minutes a day, 3-times each week by the end of the program. If you’re more fit when we begin, the sky’s the limit. Whatever your schedule and stamina will support.
The weekly NeighborWalk group is led by AARP volunteers each Tuesday at 2PM. Participants will walk independently the rest of the week and meet up on Tuesdays to discuss their progress. Participants will receive useful info from the Arthritis Foundation, share your experiences with others, and connect socially. This program offers the opportunity to create a healthy walking habit, meet new friends, and enjoy the beautiful Helena Spring!
At AARP Montana, we think that a healthy lifestyle can help us all to deal with the daily stress of living.
