Duke Energy Wants To Raise Your Rates!

UPDATED: May 21, 2024

What’s new?

Duke Energy is seeking approval for an $820 million increase from the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC). This rate hike will burden households already struggling with rising costs. Your household expenses are at stake, and we need you to take action and fight back.

What it means for you?

Residential customer bills can expect the following monthly base rate increases using 1,000 kWh per month (excludes billing adjustments and sales taxes) beginning January 1st of each year:

  • 2025: increase of $16.48 ($100.39 from $83.91) per month compared to 2024, or 19.6%.
  • 2026: increase of $2.73 ($103.12 from $100.39) per month compared to 2025, or 2.71%.
  • 2027: increase of $4.93 ($108.05 from $103.12) per month compared to 2026, or 4.7%.

The base rate increase proposal includes an $2.56 increase to the monthly residential fixed customer charge per household, in addition to the $30 per month residential minimum bill, which is unrelated to electric usage:

  • 2025: Increase of $1.97 ($14.86 from $12.89) or a 15.3% increase.
  • 2026: Increase of $0.27 ($15.13 from $14.86) or a 1.8% increase.
  • 2027: Increase of $.32 ($15.45 from $15.13) or a 2.1% increase.

The base rate case does not consider other costs passed on to customers such fuel surcharge increases, nuclear cost recovery, environmental and energy charges, storm hardening and storm restoration recovery charges. The base rate increase is on top of all of these.
