AARP offers a wealth of benefits to its members. As a member of AARP, you will be connected with countless health and finance tools, volunteer opportunities, and travel discounts – plus many local discounts. With a mission to empower people to choose how they live as they age, AARP is honored to collaborate with local businesses to offer members new opportunities to connect, learn, and explore.

In the Tampa Bay area, The Tampa Bay History Center and Preserve the ‘Burg have offered specials exclusive for AARP members so you can take full advantage of the fun!

The Tampa Bay History Center is located on Tampa Bay’s Riverwalk and boasts a 60,000-square-foot facility filled with rich Florida history. The center includes permanent and temporary exhibition galleries showcasing more than 12,000 years of Florida’s history. From the beginning, when Florida’s first people inhabited the peninsula, to the city’s modern-day role, there is so much to see.

AARP Members and their guests receive free admission to the Tampa Bay History Center on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. Additionally, AARP is honored to sponsor Florida Conversations, a free monthly lecture series hosted by the Tampa Bay History Center. Guests can participate live at the Center’s TECO Hall or watch via Zoom as the brightest minds share their insight and research into Florida history. Presentations are held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, beginning at 6:30 PM ET.

Preserve the ‘Burg is the city of St. Petersburg’s partner organization with a mission to maintain the city’s history, enhance the quality of life, and encourage economic vitality. Since its founding, the group has become known for shaping conversations around the management of historic properties, neighborhoods, and landmarks. Each month events such as lectures, tours, and porch parties are hosted for the community to enjoy.

Using promo code “Ethel,” AARP members and their guests may access discount tickets to select Preserve the ‘Burg events, including walking tours, community lectures, and other special events.

Why the code “Ethel” you might ask? Named after AARP’s founder, Ethel Percy Andrus, these partnerships continue to fulfill her goals when she started AARP in 1958. The city of St. Petersburg has special ties to AARP as well. After Andrus chartered the organization, she opened a Hospitality Center in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg. The Hospitality Center played a key role in growing AARP into what it is today.

Whether you’re looking to explore Tampa Bay and Florida’s history and culture or attend events impacting the community, there is truly something for everyone at AARP. You can find more information about additional enrichment offerings for members here.
