Discover Your Family’s History
Do you ever wonder about your heritage? AARP in Houston wants to help you embrace that curiosity by hosting beginner courses in genealogy research this fall.
Two in-person sessions will be held, on Thursday, Sept. 19, and Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Houston Public Library’s Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research, at 5300 Caroline St.
The Oct. 9 session is specifically for the Hispanic community. Library staff will lead the courses, which are free and open to the public.
“People can learn the tips and tricks of genealogical resources, databases and resources offered through the library system,” said Juanita Jiménez-Soto, associate state director of communications for AARP in Houston. “They will also get instruction on how best to record and preserve their history for generations.”
AARP in Houston decided to host the informational events after similar sessions proved popular in other areas of the state.
They are the only genealogy classes scheduled so far, but more could be added if there’s interest, Jiménez-Soto said. Classes run 90 minutes, and each provides the same information.
