Detective Warns About the Danger of Cryptocurrency Kiosks

Posted on 12/17/25

Cryptocurrency kiosks, also called crypto ATMS or BTMs, are all over Wisconsin, and scammers are using them to steal millions of dollars.

Detective Scott Simons works for the Greenfield Police Department and serves on the Midwest Cryptocurrency Task Force. He talked with us about how to spot these scams and how you can protect yourself.

During the call, Detective Simons told us he deals with cryptocurrency kiosk scams all over the state on a regular basis, and he is contacted by law enforcement throughout Wisconsin multiple times a week.

The cases and experiences that Detective Simons shared with us underscore the need for Wisconsin lawmakers to pass a law that would put common-sense protections in place and help curb the number and severity of scams happening at crypto kiosks.
