Cupid Crews Hand Out 2,275 Roses in Utah!

On Valentine’s Day, February 14, Wish of a Lifetime from AARP distributed roses as a part of the 12th annual Cupid Crew initiative, a nationwide effort to connect with older adults at risk for isolation.
This year, the number of roses that will be handed out in Utah has quadrupled thanks to a partnership with Salt Lake County Aging & Adult Services. On Valentine’s Day volunteers handed out 2,275 roses to Utahns.
“It’s always a joy to witness the happiness that delivering roses brings to both the volunteers and recipients,” AARP Utah State Director Alan Ormsby said. “Regardless of age, we all need human connection to thrive. But nearly one in four adults aged 65 and above experience social isolation. Delivering roses on Valentine’s Day is just one of the many ways AARP strives to connect with those over 50.”
AARP Utah volunteers will help distribute more than 600 roses at five retirement and assisted living facilities in Salt Lake County. Salt Lake County Aging & Adult Services plans to hand out nearly 1,200 roses at senior centers and another 450 roses through their Meals on Wheels and Rides for Wellness programs.

“I’m so excited that Salt Lake County will be participating this year,” said Paul Leggett, Director of Salt Lake County Aging and Adult Services. “The roses are such a lovely gesture and represent the genuine care our staff and volunteers have for the older adults we serve. We appreciate AARP for bringing the issue of social isolation among older people to the forefront of the conversation this Valentine’s Day.”

No matter the age, we all need human connection to thrive physically and emotionally. The continuing problem of social isolation threatens the health and mental well-being of millions of people in the U.S. Through Cupid Crew, Wish of a Lifetime encourages people of all ages, to help isolated older adults feel more connected and loved. In total, volunteers will be delivering over 240,000 roses across the country this year!
