Celebrating Hispanic Heritage With Virtual Events
The influence of Latinos on Houston is a key ingredient in the city’s unique cultural blend. AARP is working to spotlight that heritage with a variety of online programs that anyone can enjoy, even if staying at home amid the pandemic.
Find concerts, educational tools and classes on topics like cooking healthy, among other entertaining offerings, on AARP in Houston’s Spanish-language Facebook page, facebook.com/AARPTexasenespanol.
The page includes a series, “AARP en Vivo Contigo,” with live concerts that range from acoustic performances to DJ dance parties. Previously recorded programs and information about upcoming events are also on the site.
Another virtual resource for the city’s Latino community is ¿Sabes Qué? con AARP, a bimonthly Spanish-language podcast.
Earlier episodes have addressed subjects such as hurricane preparedness, healthy lifestyles and AARP’s advocacy efforts at the local and national levels. New segments will be posted this month; find them at aarp.org/sabesque or on any app that streams podcasts.
