Celebrating Alaska Residents Who Give Back

Posted on 11/30/21 by The AARP Bulletin

Alaskans of any age are capable of serving their community. That’s Nona Safra’s message as an honorary member of the Alaska State Fair Royalty.

The members of the royalty court for young women 15 and up are chosen in a contest, and winners act as ambassadors for the fair at community, cultural and business events during the year.

Fair officials created a special countess title for Safra to honor her community service. An Alaska Commission on Aging member, Safra, 71, is an advocate for older adults, veterans and people with disabilities.

She wants to “celebrate those of us who are aging in Alaska and shine a light on how active and vibrant our lives are.”
