AARP members can learn more about gardening and the outdoors through monthly classes at Springfield Botanical Gardens, 2400 S. Scenic. Many are free, but registration is required.

The next class, on Wednesday, June 12, from 10 to 11 a.m., will show participants how to turn an old boot into a planter.

Other topics this summer and fall include flower arranging, monarch butterflies and a walk through the Japanese Stroll Garden.

The classes are open to people of all ages and offer a fun way to learn about gardening while connecting with others.

Find a schedule of upcoming classes at aarp.org/springfield.
