AARP Arkansas and other organizations will celebrate Juneteenth on Saturday, June 17, with a 5K walk/run and a street festival.
Juneteenth officially falls on June 19, which in 2021 was declared a federal holiday to commemorate the 1865 emancipation of enslaved people in the U.S.
The June 17 event includes Juneteenth in Da Rock at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, 501 W. Ninth St., Little Rock. The 5K winds through parts of downtown Little Rock that played key roles in the civil rights movement.
The event is free and open to the public, but a fee and registration are required to join the 5K; find registration information at juneteenthlittlerock.com.
AARP Arkansas State Director Ashley McBride serves on the Juneteenth planning committee.
