Caregiver Day 2024 1080p30 1

On Tuesday, April 16, AARP Louisiana hosted its annual Caregiver Day at the Capitol, honoring the remarkable dedication of the state's 680,000 unpaid family caregivers. This pivotal event provided caregivers with a platform to voice the critical support needed by their loved ones to lawmakers. Participants engaged with legislators, attended committee meetings, and were duly acknowledged on the esteemed floors of both the House and Senate.

The desire for aging Louisianans to remain in their homes is resoundingly clear, yet the challenge lies in fulfilling daily needs such as bathing, dressing, and meal preparation. Compounded by the responsibilities of employment, many family caregivers find themselves navigating the delicate balance between work and caregiving duties.

The vital role of home- and community-based services in alleviating this burden cannot be overstated. Nevertheless, with over 8,000 Louisianans languishing on waiting lists for these services, urgent action is imperative.
