AARP Wyoming invites you to meet the “Women I Wish I’d Known,” a free six-part online historical lecture series running from May through July. Hosted by Casper-based author Carol Chapman, each session brings to life the remarkable story of a woman who challenged norms, made history and still managed to be overlooked by the textbooks.

These aren’t your typical history lessons. From fearless frontier teachers to fashion-forward empresses—and even a snake-carrying First Daughter—each woman in the series defied expectations and left a lasting mark on the world.

The series opens May 22 at 9 a.m. MT with the story of Hannah Breece, a teacher who left a comfortable life to educate children in Alaska’s remote native villages at the turn of the 20th century.

Future sessions include:

  • June 5: The Delany Sisters – trailblazing Black professionals and authors
  • June 19: Mary Kingsley – adventurer, anthropologist, and defender of African culture
  • July 3: Lady Duff Gordon – Titanic survivor and fashion revolutionary
  • July 17: Empress Eugénie – France’s last empress and style icon
  • July 31: Alice Roosevelt – the unstoppable daughter of Teddy Roosevelt

All sessions begin at 9 a.m. Mountain Time and are held on Zoom.

About the Presenter: Carol Chapman is a Wyoming native, lifelong learner, and author who delights in telling the stories of everyday women doing extraordinary things. When she’s not researching or writing, Carol enjoys collaging, volunteering, and walking her Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Barney.
