AARP Delaware awarded Christine Powers with the 2023 Andrus Award for Community Service, the Association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award. AARP Delaware selected Ms. Powers for her remarkable service, which has greatly benefited her community.

Ms. Powers was presented with a plaque at an event featuring performer Aidan Briggs and SODELO (Southern Delaware Orchestra) to perform Broadway classics from Oklahoma, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables and more! Nearly one thousand attendees will fill the Grand Opera House in Wilmington for the award presentation and fun-filled evening of music. The media is invited to attend.

Ms. Powers is the Vice-Chair of South Coastal Village Volunteers (SCVV) in Bethany Beach, DE. Her nominator described her as “the heart and soul of SCVV. South Coastal Village Volunteers helps Delawareans live independently in their own homes, giving them more choices as to how they live as they age. The volunteers assist members with services such as transportation to medical appointments, home visits, phone check-ns, errands and technology support. SCVV fills a growing need among older residents to live successfully in their own homes and communities for as long as possible.
