Bedford Benches & Bike Rack Unveiling on November 5th

Posted on 10/22/19

Join us for a group walk in Bedford, VA- Nov. 5th at 3pm.

The unveiling and ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of the project will take place at the former Bedford Middle School, 503 Longwood, at the intersections of Longwood Ave, N. Bridge St. and Peaks St.

This point also marks the juncture of the long-standing Longwood Loop and the new Peaks and South St. Loops. To celebrate the Benches and Bike Racks project, the new Loops, and to encourage the use of all Loops, there will be a short walk down Bridge St, up Main St around South St then looping back to the starting point. We hope to include a historic talk along the way pointing out historic sites such as:

Old Yellow (then Bedford High School) which hosted the sendoff party for the Bedford Boys, the significance of Green’s Drug Store, and Dr. Pogue’s house and his contributions to Bedford.

This event will also be the beginning of a Town Walking Group, with the assistance of Bedford County Parks and Recreation and the participation of the community. There will be healthy snacks at the end of the walk. Please join us.

This project was made possible with a Community Challenge Grant from AARP.
