Posted on 12/02/18

This time of year brings plenty of holiday cheer. Unfortunately, you can also count on plenty of holiday cheats. So how can you avoid holiday scams? AARP Arkansas is partnering with the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office to provide an informative webinar that includes ways to combat holiday fraud.

The webcast is free and open to the public. It will cover the basic tactics that scammers use to manipulate us and how we can spot them and give participants the tools they need to protect themselves and their families from financial criminals.

AARP recently conducted a survey and found that 70% of consumers failed a quiz about how to stay safe from common holiday scams. (Test your knowledge by clicking here.)

Below are some tips to keep in mind this holiday season:

  • Use well-known websites when shopping online
  • Avoid “too-good-to-be-true discounts”
  • Skip the Rack when it comes to buying gift cards
  • Use credit, not debit cards
  • Sign off for package deliveries
  • Make sure your holiday donations go to a real charity
