Avoiding Fraud After Hurricane Ida

Posted on 09/09/21

As we recover from Hurricane Ida, it is important to steers clear of lurking scam artists. We urge you to only do business with licensed contractors and be careful who you sign your coverage rights away to. Also, fake charities pop up quickly in the aftermath of a natural disaster. Do your research before you donate. Visit www.give.org or www.charitynavigator before giving any money. If you suspect fraud after Hurricane Ida, contact the Louisiana Attorney General's Office at (225) 326-6465.

In the videos below, AARP Louisiana State President, Bobby Savoie speaks with Brad Hassert, Compliance Director for the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors, and Carmen Million, CEO of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of South Central Louisiana to discuss the most common scams that occur after a hurricane, and what you can do to avoid falling victim.
