As Holidays Approach, Beware Seasonal Fraud

Posted on 11/01/25 by AARP Bulletin

Washingtonians are preparing for the holidays — and so are criminals.

That’s why AARP Washington is focusing Dec. 19’s Fraud Watch Friday on scams — from fake delivery texts to gift card fraud — that increase around the holidays. Fraud Watch Friday is led by volunteers on the third Friday of each month. It’s on Zoom at 10:30 a.m. PT.

AARP research shows most Americans are targeted by the type of fraud that happens around holidays. AARP Fraud Watch Network volunteer Kay Tomlinson will reveal sneaky tactics scammers use during the holidays, including phony charity appeals. Watch the event — and ask questions — at aarp.org/fwf.
