Advocating for Absentee Voting in Delaware

Posted on 05/31/21 by The AARP Bulletin

AARP Delaware is working to help First Staters cast ballots more easily.

AARP urges policymakers to adopt measures that would enhance absentee voting and allow Delaware voters the ability to cast absentee ballots without having to provide an excuse.

Temporary allowances were made for absentee and mail-in voting last year because of the pandemic; the current effort would change the state’s constitution to make the eased voting regulations permanent.

AARP does not endorse candidates but supports policies that make voting easier and more accessible. AARP Delaware is also advocating for allowing voters to request an absentee ballot in person, online or in writing.

According to exit polls, people over age 50 made up 52 percent of voters nationally in the 2020 elections.
