Posted on 08/22/24 by Laura McDonough

The AARP Vermont State Office is pleased to welcome a new member to their team, Colin Hilliard, who will serve in the position of Associate State Director for Advocacy and Outreach. As part of AARP Vermont, Hilliard will work on advocacy and outreach initiatives designed to enhance awareness and community relationships, while identifying and engaging volunteers in grassroots advocacy campaigns that support AARP’s policy goals. AARP Vermont strives to develop a presence in communities statewide through strengthening visibility, media presence, volunteer capacity, building community partnerships, delivering social impact programs, events, and activities and outreach to AARP members and their families.

Hilliard has worked in non-profit advocacy and community organizing in Vermont since 2018. Most recently, he was the Deputy Director of the Burlington Business Association (BBA), where he led the organization's local advocacy efforts, specifically on housing, zoning, and public safety issues, and ran the BBA's Downtown Action Group. He has previously worked and consulted on dozens of local and state political campaigns with a focus on digital and field organizing. Hilliard also co-chairs the Burlington-Kuyalnyck (Ukraine) Sister City program. He has been active in organizing Vermont aid to Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion through his work as an advisor to the NGO Actions Beyond Words.

“Colin’s vast experience in local-level advocacy and community organizing will be invaluable to our team as we strive toward making Vermont a better place to live and age,” said AARP Vermont State Director Greg Marchildon. “We are thrilled to welcome Colin to our talented and dedicated Vermont state staff, and our enthusiastic volunteers who make our work possible.”

Hilliard holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Vermont's Grossman School of Business.

On behalf of our 112,000 members in the state, AARP warmly welcomes Colin Hilliard to AARP Vermont!
