AARP Utah Volunteer Highlight: Midvale Elementary Service Project

Posted on 05/01/25 by AARP Utah

MIDVALE — Throughout the school year, our dedicated AARP Utah volunteers gather each month to pack over 160 bags of food for students at Midvale Elementary.

This is one of the many monthly service projects our volunteers participate in to support the community.

The process begins with the Utah Food Bank delivering an array of food items, including bread, cheese, cereal, fruit, and vegetables. Volunteers then spend over an hour preparing and bagging these items to ensure each bag is filled with nutritious food to support the students and their families.

Once the food is packed, it's time to hand out the bags to the students, who carry them home to their families. This operation typically requires a group of 6 to 8 volunteers to complete efficiently.

Donna, the AARP Utah team lead for this project, is interviewed by KSL's Tamara Vaifanua.

The impact of these efforts is profound, as it not only provides essential nourishment but also fosters a sense of community and support. AARP volunteers play a crucial role in alleviating the burden on Utah families, making a tangible difference in their lives.
