Posted on 09/16/24

AARP Utah staff and volunteers joined forces for AARP’s National Day of Service, an annual event dedicated to community service projects aimed at improving lives. AARP’s National Day of Service initiatives have a significant impact on communities across the country. By mobilizing volunteers to engage in various service projects, AARP addresses critical issues such as hunger, poverty, and community well-being.

In Utah, around 15 volunteers spent almost two hours sorting apples at the Utah Food Bank, boxing up the good ones, and preparing them for shipment to local schools. Their efforts resulted in four pallets of boxes ready for distribution.

Nationwide, AARP offices participated in various service projects. In Washington D.C., volunteers prepared nearly 2,500 meal boxes and 2,000 snack bags for the Capital Area Food Bank, showcasing a collective commitment to community support and service.

These initiatives not only provide immediate relief but also foster a sense of community and solidarity. Volunteers gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by their neighbors and are inspired to continue their involvement in community service. Overall, AARP’s National Day of Service exemplifies how collective efforts can create meaningful change and improve the quality of life for many individuals.
