By embracing the six key pillars of brain health, you can turn your everyday routines into empowering experiences. AARP Virginia volunteer Natalie Halloran and Myra Basnight led a virtual information session on June 5, 2025, introducing the Six Pillars of Brain Health. Every Thursday at 6 p.m., a new session will be held for registered attendees in June.

AARP’s comprehensive blueprint for brain health serves as a valuable reminder to take charge of your mental well-being through intentional lifestyle choices. Regardless of whether you are in your 30s, 60s, or any age in between and beyond, incorporating regular physical activity, engaging in cognitive challenges, building strong social connections, maintaining a balanced diet, ensuring restful sleep and practicing effective stress management can help you not only age gracefully but also vibrantly.

As we increasingly focus on sustainable health, the conversation around cognitive wellness is growing richer. What starts as a commitment to brain health often leads to even more positive outcomes: enhanced mood, increased energy and a more fulfilling connection to what you love. Suppose you’re curious about practical steps or inspiring success stories, AARP’s ongoing research and outreach efforts provide resources and motivation. The vast amount of available information suggests the future of brain health is as dynamic and diverse as we are.

Future sessions in the series: June 12: Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body June 19: Understanding Alzheimer's and Dementia June 26: Exploring Care and Support Services

Exploring these pillars invites you to reflect on your daily habits and consider small changes with significant impact. What will be your first step toward a sharper and healthier future?
