AARP Tennessee President Sets Focus on Caregivers

Posted on 07/01/23 by The AARP Bulletin

Gerre Currie is bringing her experience in government and community service to her role as AARP Tennessee’s state president, the organization’s top volunteer position.

Currie, who was a caregiver for her late mother, wants to help the 930,000 Tennesseans serving as family caregivers. “Being in that space — and being on the ground yourself — gives you an entirely different perspective on what AARP members are going through,” she says.

Currie, 66, and AARP Tennessee Director Mia McNeil plan to travel the state to meet volunteers during Currie’s two-year term. A former member of the Memphis City Council, Currie is vice president and community development officer at Financial Federal Bank in Memphis.
