AARP South Florida celebrates Hispanic women who make a difference in our community
Alpinist Araceli Segarra is the first Latina to have reached the summit of Mount Everest. Dr. Ellen Ochoa is the first Latina in space. The contributions and accomplishments of both women are inspirational and worthy of celebration.
This fall, AARP South Florida is a proud sponsor of A Virtual Afternoon with Alpinist Araceli Segarra. Presented by the Museum of Science and Discovery, this free virtual event will feature Araceli Segarra, whose ascent of Mount Everest was chronicled in the IMAX documentary, EVEREST. Segarra has also published a series of children’s books and delivers motivational conferences worldwide.
Aside from being a pioneer as the first Latina in space, veteran astronaut Dr. Ellen Ochoa is also an engineer and former director of the Johnson Space Center. AARP and the Museum of Discovery and Science invite you to a free Virtual Evening with Astronaut Dr. Ellen Ochoa, where you will enjoy a live presentation, a question & answer session and a streaming IMAX Documentary, Life in Space.
