AARP South Dakota's Vision for 2024

Posted on 01/25/23

AARP South Dakota’s vision is to be a leader in areas such as:

  • Family caregiver education, outreach, and advocacy through strong legislative policy, statewide outreach campaigns, and key partnerships.
  • Financial Security education and advocacy, including retirement, Social Security, Medicare, and fraud. We will develop key partnerships and scale up Financial Security educational programs while increasing volunteer leadership in established fraud programs.
  • Expand our Livable Communities work by strengthening current age-friendly communities and building our advocacy muscle in communities across the state. Our focus continues to be digital literacy, food insecurity, age-friendly planning efforts, and maintaining AARP as a leader in rural livability.
  • Delivering effective education and outreach about voting while advancing AARP priorities.

2024 Legislative Session
AARP South Dakota maintains a presence in Pierre during the annual legislative session to ensure the voices of 50-plus residents are heard and represented. This year, we are watching such issues as:

  • Implementation of Medicaid Expansion
  • Consumer Protection
  • Long-term care and Home and Community-Based Services
  • Property tax relief for older adults and individuals with disabilities
  • Voter access

We will also keep an eye out for other issues important to the 50-plus in our state, including things like health care access, housing, transportation and more.
