AARP San Antonio to celebrate Día de los Muertos at Hemisfair

Posted on 09/19/23

Día de los Muertos at Hemisfair, also dubbed Muertos Fest, has become a mainstream event filled with a balance of reverence for those who have passed, and a celebration of life, love and respect for family and culture. This year's two-day festival takes place on October 28 and 29 on the grounds of Hemisfair, in downtown San Antonio. Annually, the event attracts more than 150,000 attendees to this one-of-a-kind experience.

AARP San Antonio is working on the details, but we’ll be hosting an exclusive preview event for AARP members on Saturday, October 28. The first “Que viven los muertos” workshop of the day will be open to AARP members who RSVP for the event. The workshop will occur an hour before the grounds open to the public and AARP members can join us at the AARP tent for coffee and pan dulce before taking a walk through the festival. We’ll be providing details soon, so check back here so you can RSVP.

At the heart of Muertos Fest are the many beautiful and colorful Día de los Muertos altars honoring loved ones who have passed. Named by National Geographic as one of the top 7 fall festivals in the United States, the event features two puppet processions, four stages and more than 40 live performances, workshops, and local food and art vendors.
