AARP Partners with JLF Seattle: Celebrating Literature, Culture, and Community

AARP is delighted to sponsor the inaugural chapter of JLF in Seattle, taking place from September 20-22, 2024, at the Seattle Asian Art Museum and Townhall Seattle. This event marks the first time JLF International, renowned for its celebration of literature, ideas, and culture, will be hosted in the U.S. Pacific Northwest.

Since its beginnings in Jaipur, India, the Jaipur Literature Festival has been a significant gathering for literature lovers. Over the years, JLF has expanded globally, blending South Asian literary traditions with the cultural richness of its host cities. JLF Seattle will bring together a series of conversations and performances through the incredible works of writers, thinkers, artists and performers for a weekend filled with enriching conversations.

Our involvement in JLF Seattle reflects AARP’s commitment to fostering cultural exchange and building community. We believe in the power of literature and the arts to connect people across generations and cultures. Supporting an event that celebrates diverse voices and promotes intellectual growth is important as it aligns with our mission to enhance the quality of life for all.

AARP’s sponsorship of JLF Seattle is also part of our broader efforts to engage with the South Asian community. Earlier this year, we partnered with Showbiz India to produce a six-part mini documentary series, “Cords of Connection,” which highlights the unique stories of caregiving, fraud prevention, and more, from the perspective of South Asian Americans.

At JLF Seattle, we are sponsoring sessions like "Mapping the Heavens" with Priyamvada Natarajan, "Culture: A New World History" with Anand Yang, and "Food, Culture and Memory" with Srijith Gopinathan. These sessions explore the intersection of culture, nostalgia, and community—topics that resonate with the South Asian audience.
