AARP Orlando Honors World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, observed annually on June 15th, aims to raise awareness about the abuse and neglect that older adults face. This day serves as a global call to action to address the challenges and injustices that elderly individuals endure, ranging from physical harm to emotional and financial exploitation.
By spotlighting these issues, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day seeks to raise awareness of the cultural, social, economic and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect, foster respect for elders, and encourage policies and programs that protect the rights and well-being of older persons.
On Monday, June 10, AARP Orlando will be hosting a special edition of our Walk with a Doc program in Celebration, where we will raise awareness about World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Attendees are encouraged to wear purple — the color associated with dignity and respect — to show their support.
In addition, The City of Orlando will be hosting a free event, "Aging in Place and Staying Safe in the Home," taking place on Thursday, June 6. More information can be found on Eventbrite.
