AARP Oregon to Host Women & Financial Security Workshops

Posted on 01/03/20 by Joyce DeMonnin

Women are three times as likely as men to say they can’t afford to save for retirement and in general have lower rates of financial literacy. Women also make up the majority of caregivers, and are three times more likely than men to quit their jobs to care for a family member.

Generally speaking, women earn less, save less, and live longer — but are still responsible for the same living expenses men pay. The end result is that more women than men fall into poverty past the age of 65.

Learning more about finance can help women make better decisions while they are still in the workforce and help prepare for retirement, unexpected emergencies and more.

But how do you get started? This March AARP Oregon will hold a series of programs along the I-5 corridor on Women and Financial Security. We’ll explore the foundations of retirement security including learning more about Social Security, Medicare, Personal Savings and retirement benefits and a fresh look at work after retirement.
