AARP Oklahoma and OATS Host In-Person Technology Classes

AARP Oklahoma and AARP Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) help adults learn to use technology to improve their lives. The free, in-person technology classes will be offered in room A at the Community Health Centers, Inc., 3748 North Lincoln in Oklahoma City. The series will include information on smartphones, social media, Google Maps, food delivery and more.


Available Classes & Dates:

Please note that registration is required for each session. 

Class time is one hour, 1- 2 p.m.

July 26- Internet of Things at a Glance: This lecture provides an overview of the Internet and discusses best practices for securing your devices. Learn about how consumer devices communicate with each other across this ecosystem and which of your devices are part of the Internet of Things.

August 2- Smartphones at a Glance: Learn about popular smartphones on the market and the pros and cons of the Android and Apple phones.

August 9- Intro to Social Media: This class will provide a general introduction to social media and teach you about some popular sites, such as Facebook, X and TikTok.

August 16- Google Maps: Google Maps is a mapping application that offers satellite imagery, a route planner for your preferred transportation method, be it foot, car, bicycle or public transportation and street-view perspectives.

August 23- Video Chat: Learn about commonly-used, no or low-cost video chat apps, learn about their features, and explore video chat tips so you can connect with family, friends, coworkers, and others, no matter where you are.

August 30- Fitness Apps: Learn about the benefits of fitness apps, which can help you track your nutrition and activity, plan your workouts, stay motivated and even get better sleep.

September 6- Food Delivery Apps: This lecture provides an overview of the most popular food delivery apps, such as Seamless. You’ll learn about the pros and cons, how to search for new restaurants, and how to leave a tip and rating.

September 13- Facebook: This lecture offers an overview of Facebook’s evolution, its most popular features, and tips for getting in on the action. It will also cover privacy settings and the role of advertising on Facebook.

September 20- Ridesharing Apps: This presentation will explore ride-sharing apps, also known as e-hailing apps. Learn about the two most popular apps, Uber and Lyft, and their pros and cons.

September 27- YouTube: This presentation will give an overview of the free content available on YouTube and show you how to navigate the site easily. You will also get tips for viewing and sharing others’ videos and learn about uploading your own.
