AARP OK Nursing Home CARE Plan Becomes Law

Posted on 11/20/19

The AARP Oklahoma Nursing Home CARE Plan became law on November 1, 2019.

AARP OK Nursing Home CARE Plan Protects Seniors

This new law sets Oklahoma on a path to better care for our loved ones by:

» Preventing nursing homes from administering dangerous anti-psychotic medications to restrain residents

» Requiring informed consent and alternative treatment options prior to an antipsychotic drug being administered

» Increasing staffing and staff training at nursing homes

» Implementing a new program to make sure Oklahomans know all care options, including home-based care

We took a giant step forward during the 2019 Oklahoma legislative session in reversing years of decline in nursing home care, but the fight is not over.
