AARP Ohio Celebrates Black History Month

Posted on 01/30/24

AARP recognizes, honors and celebrates the contributions of Black art and artists during Black History Month. Through our brain health work, we know that art keeps us mentally sharp, as it connects us and preserves our collective story.

“Artists are the gatekeepers of truth. We are civilization’s radical voice,” said Paul Robeson, a singer, actor, athlete and activist. He and so many Black artists use their craft to build community and push for progress.

This year, we are uplifting dynamic artists, especially from Ohio, with the theme, "Amplyfying Artists of Every Age." Watch our Facebook and X (Twitter) pages throughout February to see who's being featured.

Check out this year's Black History Month events in Ohio honoring the important contributions of Black artists, celebrating cultural identity and remembering the fight for justice, diversity and equity.
