AARP New York State Blueprint For Action
New Yorkers age 50 and over have the experience, expertise, and commitment to make our state shine again, but this cohort that contributes so much to every community faces its own unique challenges that must be addressed. With its over 2.2 million members statewide, AARP New York has released the 2025 "AARP New York State Blueprint For Action” and is calling on the Hochul administration and state lawmakers to develop clear plans to address ageism and make New York State more age-friendly so New Yorkers 50 and over can safely, affordably, and happily grow older here.
Doing so will benefit residents of all ages, given that people age 50 and over account for more than one-third of New York State’s population. Residents 50 and older contribute about $600 billion a year to the state’s economy, form the state’s leading volunteer base, represent the largest voter turnout bloc, and are the driving force in New York’s cultural life and civic engagement.
The way to harness the power of our state’s aging population is detailed in the new 50-page report, which offers solutions to the many challenges facing older New Yorkers as well as guidelines for enhancing and expanding existing programs so that each person eligible for a program or service is informed about it and has access to support and resources to obtain and retain vital benefits and services.
Drawing on a variety of research and policy works, AARP presents this action-oriented blueprint that New York State leaders can use to ensure that New Yorkers age 50 and over continue to enhance the state that we all love.
