NEW YORK, N.Y. – AARP New York State Director Beth Finkel issued the following statement today in response to news that Mayor Adams and the City Council have come to an agreement on New York City’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget:

"On behalf of the 1.3 million older adults who call the five boroughs home, we are grateful for the investment in older adult services in the FY2025 budget. This budget takes important steps towards closing the gap that home-delivered meal providers face, and includes investments in our older adult centers.

“We thank Mayor Eric Adams, Speaker Adrienne Adams, Committee on Aging Chair Crystal Hudson, and Finance Chair Justin Brannan for their work to address the needs of our aging population. However, there is still much work to be done to fill the gaps that leave too many older adults without vital services. In the months ahead, we are committed to working with the Mayor and the Council to ensure the full restoration of services that older New Yorkers rely on, so they can age in the communities they’ve built that have made our city great.”
