AARP is one of the 2019 World’s Most Ethical Companies chosen by the Ethisphere Institute, which since 2007 has honored purpose-driven companies committed to ethical business conduct and to improving the communities they serve.

This year marks the first time that AARP, the nation’s largest nonprofit dedicated to empowering people to choose how they live as they age, has been recognized. AARP joins 127 other honorees from 21 countries around the world that were announced Tuesday.

“As AARP enters our 61st year of service to people 50-plus and their families, we are proud to receive this honor and I want to thank the AARP team nationwide for all their work on behalf of the people we serve,” said AARP CEO Jo Ann Jenkins.

The companies recognized this year span 50 industries, from automakers to insurers to retail giants. They were evaluated by the Ethisphere Institute for exceptional performance in five categories: ethics and compliance program, culture of ethics, corporate citizenship and responsibility, governance, and leadership and reputation.

“Today, employees, investors and stakeholders are putting their greatest trust in companies to take leadership on societal issues. Companies that take the long view with a purpose-based strategy are proven to not only outperform but last,” said Ethisphere CEO Timothy Erblich. “I congratulate everyone at AARP for earning this recognition.”
