AARP Minnesota 2022 Andrus Award

Posted on 11/09/22 by AARP MN

The annual AARP Andrus Award for Community Service recognizes individuals who are sharing their experience, talent, and skills to enrich their communities. AARP’s commitment to volunteer service can be traced back to our founder, Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, whose motto “to serve, not to be served” has shaped our community service efforts at the national, state, and local levels.

Each year, we honor the legacy of Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus with the AARP Minnesota Andrus Award for Community Service. The annual Andrus Award for Community Service is AARP’s most prestigious and visible volunteer award. It recognizes individuals who are sharing their experience, talent and skills to enrich their communities in ways that are consistent with AARP’s purpose, vision, and commitment to volunteer service, and that inspire others to volunteer. This year, Roger Wherry is the AARP Minnesota 2022 Andrus Award Recipient!

Since Roger's involvement with Habitat for Humanity began in 1991, he has volunteered over a total of 1,156 days accumulating well over 8,000 hours of volunteer time as a construction laborer. During the early years, he served as the Cargill Volunteer Coordinator at Habitat for Humanity in the Twin Cities soliciting volunteers from Cargill and serving as a liaison with Cargill and the Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity organization. After his retirement in 2010, he continued to actively volunteer at Habitat for Humanity building sites in the Twin Cities as well as in Los Cruces, New Mexico and San Diego, California during the winter months.

AARP Minnesota is proud to honor Roger and the work he has done!
