SEPTEMBER

Monday, September 24  –  Finances 50+. This workshop is designed to help you build habits than can improve your financial situation. You will get a good handle on where you stand financially, plus simple hands-on ways to make measurable progress toward your financial goals.
Location: Auditorium at Carnegie Branch, Jackson District Library.  244 West Michigan Avenue, Jackson.

Wednesday, September 26 –  Finances 50+. The City of Jackson has decided to join the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities!  Join us for a discussion about how joining the network may benefit Jackson residents.  Your input is critical and will be used to create the action plan for Jackson.  Please say you’ll join us to help shape Jackson’s future.
Location: Auditorium at Carnegie Branch, Jackson District Library.  244 West Michigan Avenue, Jackson.

Thursday, September 27  –  Free screening of Won’t You Be My Neighbor. Mister Fred Rogers. A portrait of a man whom we all think we know, this documentary is an emotional and moving film that takes you beyond zip-up cardigans and the land of make-believe, and into the heart of a creative genius, who inspired generations of children with compassion and limitless imagination.
Tickets are free but registration is required.
Location: Michigan Theatre.  124 North Mechanic Street, Jackson.

OCTOBER

Tuesday, October 2  –  Disrupting Disparities: A Continuum of Care in Michigan, Statewide Conference.  AARP Michigan, Western Michigan University College of Health and Human Services, along with more than 21 other organizations will share the findings of a nine month study on Disrupting Disparities: The Continuum of Care in the State of Michigan.  The final two gubernatorial candidates, other elected officials, constituents, and hundreds of students from several universities have been invited to join this event.
Location: Crowne Plaza Hotel.  925 S. Creyts Road, Lansing.

Thursday, October 11  –  Become a Volunteer! Are you looking for that special “something” where you can connect to the community, make new friends, help your neighbors, and have fun? AARP Michigan has surprising opportunities brewing all the time! Join us for coffee and pastries as you learn ways to get involved and make a difference in Jackson.

Saturday, October 13  –  Rollin’ with AARP. AAARP will be hosting a fall color community bike ride in Sparks County Park and on the Intercity Trail in Jackson to showcase one of Jackson’s Age-Friendly features. The ride will be leisurely and will be for riders of all ability levels. Join us for a safe, fun, slow-roll through Jackson and the celebration at the end of the ride. Grab your bike, put some air in your tires, bring your family and friends, and be sure to wear red!

NOVEMBER

Friday, November 9  – Dance, Dance, Dance! Are you looking for something fun to do on a Friday night?  AARP Michigan will be hosting an evening celebrating Jackson’s diverse culture through music and dancing. No dancing experience? No problem. Instructors will lead the way with lessons in ballroom, hustle, Latin, and more! The event is free however, we welcome donations of new, warm winter accessories which will be presented to local veteran families.
Location: Gene Davis and Sons Banquet Center, 3575 Francis Street, Jackson.
