AARP Maine Clarifies It Does Not Endorse Candidates, or Make Contributions to Political Campaigns or Candidates

PORTLANDAARP Maine State Director Lori Parham released the following statement today in response to the Collins for ME Senate mention of AARP in a political ad running in Maine targeting House Speaker Sara Gideon. Said Parham:

“AARP did not authorize or participate in the production of the advertisement targeting House Speaker Sara Gideon. We encourage Mainers and all Americans to ask questions so they know where the candidates stand on important issues such as prescription drug prices, Medicare, Social Security and family caregiving. Rather than attacking each other, we urge the candidates to make clear where they stand.”

“We have a proud history of non-partisan voter engagement, providing voters with information on where the candidates stand on issues important to Mainers, so they can make their own decisions in 2020. AARP continually monitors the misuse of its name or logo in any political advertising. AARP does not endorse candidates and does not make contributions to political campaigns or candidates.”
