AARP Maine Presents: The Fight for Fair Electric Rates Workshops

Posted on 08/31/23

AARP Maine continues to fight to keep utility rates fair and reasonable in the state with the country’s oldest population. Maine already has electricity rates that are higher than the national average, and they have increased even further in the last 12 months. Rising utility costs coupled with higher housing, food and medicine expenses force many vulnerable, older adults to make tough choices. However, electricity costs are a particular concern and have increased faster than the rate of inflation.

AARP Maine will hold free utility workshops in Portland, Bangor and Auburn for Mainers who want to:

  • Learn about to better understand their electric bills which we often hear can be quite confusing. What are the basic charges on our monthly bills? How are the rates computed?
  • Hear about AARP Maine's work to fight for fair and reasonable utility rates in the state.
  • Get involved in our efforts and become consumer advocates in their own communities.
