AARP Louisiana State Director, Denise Bottcher has announced the appointment of Alfred Mason as state president - the highest state-level volunteer position within the nonprofit, nonpartisan organization. AARP Louisiana has nearly 450,000 members statewide.

"We’re excited to have Mason step into this key leadership position,” Bottcher said. “His extensive professional experience, his service as an AARP volunteer and his passion for our mission make him an ideal choice.”

Mason, a Gonzales resident, will lead AARP Louisiana’s volunteer Executive Council and work to achieve the mission and strategic priorities in communities across the state. He will also serve as the principal AARP volunteer spokesperson in Louisiana. Mason succeeds Denham Springs resident Bobby G. Savoie who served in the role for 6 years. His appointment is effective Jan.1.

“I am humbled to have been selected to serve as the next state president of AARP Louisiana,” said Mason. “I am also excited at the prospect of being able to work with dedicated, dynamic, and fully committed volunteers and staff to be a champion for individuals 50 plus in Louisiana.”

Mason is an active AARP volunteer leader. He is the past president of the AARP Gonzales Chapter, and is a fixture within the State Office, serving in almost every capacity to support the team. He is a member of the Speakers Bureau, and also works with the national AARP Fraud Watch Network Helpline, assisting callers with questions and concerns about fraud and scams.

He is an AARP advocate, helping to fight for adults 50+ at the state legislature, and has helped to recruit, onboard and train volunteers. Last year he received the Andrus Award for Community Service—AARP’s most prestigious and visible volunteer honor.
