New Orleans residents, Danny and Jeannette Albert have been selected to receive the 2019 Andrus Award for Community Service -- the Association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service.
The couple will be formally recognized at a reception on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. at St. Dominic Parish, 775 Harrison Ave, New Orleans, LA.

The Alberts were selected for their remarkable service which has greatly benefited their community, supported AARP’s vision and mission, and inspired other volunteers.

Since 2016, they have served as dedicated and loyal members of the volunteer screening team for the New Orleans-based non-profit AAAneurysm Outreach, the nation’s only 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) and encouraging at-risk individuals to get screened.

They have helped more than 2,000 individuals obtain free public health screenings for AAA, and have recruited new volunteers from a pool of their friends, network and even previous screened attendees.

“We are thrilled about this recognition for Danny and Jeannette, because of all of their inspiration to us, as they give so much to their community, through AAAneurysm Outreach and several other organizations,” said JB Hunt, AAAneurysm Outreach Executive Director. “Thank you from all of us at AAAneurysm Outreach for selecting Danny and Jeannette, two very giving and deserving individuals.”

“This award acts as a symbol to the public that we can all work together for positive social change,” said Bobby Savoie, AARP Louisiana State President. “AARP has long valued the spirit of volunteerism and the important contributions volunteers make to their communities, neighbors, and the programs they serve.”

AAAneurysm Outreach will receive a $500 donation from AARP Louisiana on behalf of Danny and Jeannette Albert.
