The AARP Las Cruces Chapter is always up to something in the community. Check-out these upcoming events, which are open to the public.

Friday, May 10, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. -- Social Security Discussion: When it comes to deciding when to retire and when to claim benefits, there’s no right age. Join this discussion to help make an informed decision about the future. Location: Good Samaritan, 3025 Terrace, Las Cruces.

Saturday, May 11, 9:30 a.m. -- Adopt-A-Spot: also held the second Saturday of each month. This is a community AARP project and is part of the Keep Las Cruces Beautiful program. Volunteers will pick up litter and do whatever is needed to create a clean beautiful environment at Bataan East and Rinconada Boulevard.  Meet chapter members at the Big O Tires on Sonoma Ranch. Trash bags and a safety vest will be provided. Anyone interested is invited to participate.

Thursday, May 16, 2 p.m. – AARP Las Cruces Chapter Meeting: Join the Las Cruces Chapter for a discussion on Alzheimer’s disease by Alexis Ramirez, from the Alzheimer’s Group. The event will be at the Senior Amigos, 4311 E. Lohman Ave,

Saturday, May 18, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. -- Prepare to Care: Caring for a family member or close friend is one the most important roles a person can play.  Learn five important steps that can help with one’s caregiving journey. Location: Good Samaritan, 3025 Terrace Drive.

  Wednesday, May 22, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. -- Living Longer, Living Smarter: This session will focus on making health choices now to steer participants toward the future they want.  The discussion will cover taking positive steps to prevent disease and manage ongoing conditions and provide tips and resources to help participants stay in control of their own life. Location: Good Samaritan, 3025 Terrace Drive.

Saturday, June 1 -- Mark your calendars!  The 2019 Shred Fest, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Protect against fraud by keeping sensitive information out of the hands of scammers. Bring any sensitive documents to the Walmart parking lot on Walton Boulevard for free shredding. Households are limited to two banker’s size boxes. Shredding is done on a first come, first served basis until the trucks are full or until 12 p.m. Volunteers are also needed to direct traffic and to help lift boxes into the shredding truck. Chapter members, please sign up to help.

Wednesday, June 19th -- Chapter Meeting, 2 p.m. — Join the chapter for some summer ice cream and bingo.  This will be the last meeting before summer break. There are no meetings in July and August. September 18 will be the next Chapter meeting – same time/same place. Have a safe and cool summer!!

Driver Safety Classes

Complete an AARP Driver Safety Class and you can received a discount on your auto insurance. The class is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.
