AARP Joins City & State’s Greater Pittsburgh Healthcare Summit
AARP Pennsylvania joined City and State’s Greater Pittsburgh Healthcare Summit on July 19th, with board member Joanne Grossi hosting a panel on Aging and Vulnerable Communities and the Caregiving Crisis.
As is well known, the Great Resignation, the economy, and unprecedented income opportunities for lower-wage earners has caused a severe shortage of caregivers for our most vulnerable populations.
Grossi’s panel hosted hosted Representative Jessica Benham, of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives; Garry Pezzano, President and CEO, LeadingAge PA; Camila Alarcon-Chelecki, MSPPM, Acting Manager, Office of Community Health & Safety, City of Pittsburgh; and Erin Dalton, Director of the Allegheny County Department of Human Services. Together, they discussed how government agencies at the local and state levels are responding to these shortage issues, what providers are doing to retain existing employees and attract new ones, and what role can family members trained as caregivers play in ensuring that our most vulnerable Pennsylvanians are protected and thriving.
