Voters voting in polling place

AARP is proud of a decades-long effort to encourage people to vote, and AARP Indiana is celebrating our civic duty by teaming up with some of our state’s largest transit agencies to offer free fares to encourage getting to the polls on November 8.

“Americans 50-plus are our nation’s most powerful voters,” AARP Indiana State Director Sarah Waddle said,  “and they will be the deciders in the 2022 elections.

“It is critical to ensure that older voters can exercise their right to vote, regardless of whether or not they drive or live close to their polling place.”

This midterm election, IndyGo (Indianapolis), Gary Public Transit, and CitiLink (Fort Wayne) users will receive their bus fares for free.

These partnerships resulting in free bus fares for voters and the general public is just one aspect of AARP Indiana’s sustained efforts to make it easier to learn when, where, and how to vote.

“Voting is not only foundational to our democracy, but it helps make our communities even more livable for people of all ages,” Waddle said. “It helps us develop cities that promote our ability to age in place— to ensure we have adequate housing, transportation, and healthcare options to live in our homes and community as long as we choose.”
