AARP Indiana Applauds Passage of Indianapolis Vision Zero Policy
On August 12, The Indianapolis City-County Council voted to adopt a “Vision Zero” ordinance aimed at eliminating traffic fatalities.
Proposal Number 224, 2024 passed the full council 22-3 after being approved by the Public Works Committee in July. This ordinance has the goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries by 2035. It establishes a 15-member task force with members appointed by the City-County Council president and the Mayor to develop and oversee a Vison Zero Action Plan.
Please see below for a full statement from AARP Indiana Director of Community Engagement, Addison Pollock on the passage of the proposal:
“AARP Indiana strives to empower Hoosiers to choose how they live as they age. Safer and more accessible streets help give residents that choice.
“With the passage of this ordinance, Indianapolis is showing that it takes the safety of all road users seriously and it’s a critical step toward making our neighborhoods more livable for people of all ages.
“We want to thank the Councilors John Barth and Andy Nielsen for their leadership on this issue and we look forward to working with city leaders to effectively implement this important policy.”
