Español | AARP in The Virgin Islands is collaborating with AARP Puerto Rico to offer a series of fraud prevention awareness virtual sessions to educate residents in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on how to protect themselves and their loved ones from fraud and scams after a disaster, during the holiday season, and to recognize financial exploitation of elders.

The first training, Fraud in the Aftermath of a Disaster, is scheduled on Zoom on Friday, August 31, 2023, at 5:30 pm in the Virgin Islands. To register for the English session, visit this link: Register to the AARP in The Virgin Islands and AARP Puerto Rico Disaster Fraud Training in English. It will stream in Spanish at the AARP in Puerto Rico Facebook page at Facebook.com/AARPPuertoRico and features presentations by the Department of Justice Criminal Division - National Center for Disaster Fraud (NCDF), FEMA Caribbean Region Disaster Fraud Division, VI Emergency Management Agency (VITEMA), and the Puerto Rico Emergency Management Agency (PREMA).

Registrants should sign in to their AARP.org account or create an account to register. AARP membership is not required and registration is entirely free. The sessions are open to the public 18 years of age and older. The second and third sessions are scheduled for Thursday, October 26, and Monday and Tuesday, December 11 and 12, 2023.

“AARP in The Virgin Islands is very excited to collaborate with our colleagues in Puerto Rico to offer people in the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and across the nation tips to prevent fraud,” said Troy de Chabert-Schuster, State Director of AARP-VI. “It is important to ensure that people are armed with the information they need to constantly protect themselves and their families from scammers.”
